Shimrit Ron
For twelve and a half years, Shimrit Ron led the Hanoch Levin Institute of Israeli Drama with care and devotion. She spread the word of Israeli drama to the world, initiating translations into many languages. She was kind and clever, with a sharp sense of humour and a phenomenal memory. She loved beautiful things, always wore colourful clothes and could burst into opera in the middle of the street, with no warning, simply because the spirit took her. Life is not always simple in the wild Middle East, but she always used art to rise above every challenge.
Her friends from all over the world have been praying for her these last months. She has and is constantly in our minds at every turn of the way. We will miss her warmth and her free spirit, her wit, her jokes, her endless knowledge, her friendliness and well, everything. We used to get daily updates from radiation therapy, telling us about the superb deli salad she ate, and her fantasy of buying a very expansive bag by an Israeli designer, right outside the hospital.
But we know what she would want: for you all to enjoy the ride and let IsraDrama lift you beyond.
May her memory be a blessing
