Geva Can’t Fall in Love is an intimate, contemporary, multilingual play set in Berlin. It follows Geva, a young Israeli gay guy, who moves to Germany during a war, hoping to start over. What begins as a romantic escapade gradually unfolds into a complex journey in search for love, belonging, and identity within an emotionally and politically charged reality.
Through a series of encounters that are tender, awkward and often humorous, Geva attempts to build a new life for himself. But he soon discovers that distance does not erase the past, and that trauma, fear, and longing still shape his relationships. The play explores the tension between a desire for intimacy and fear of it, and the emotional cost of trying to manage other people’s feelings and create a sense of stability. Blending Hebrew, English and German, the production reflects the experience of living in-between languages, cultures and emotional landscapes. With humor and vulnerability, the production offers a nuanced and non-judgmental portrayal of relationships in a time of ongoing uncertainty.
The play was developed at Hameshulash Theatre, the LGBTQ+ theatre of Tel Aviv, and it seeks to express contemporary queer experiences that is both locally rooted and internationally resonant.
