Birthday is a performance that blends live music with personal non-fiction writing, providing a space for intimate, dream-like listening. With a harp, guitar and two voices, it deals with the longing for parenthood and the fears it provokes. Neyman’s perspective is of the emotional and ethical complexity of having kids when you are a gay man. From Gluskinos’s perspective as a woman, it touches on deep-rooted questions regarding motherhood or being childfree. These issues emerge from everyday life and in times of war, and these two arcs create a delicate symphony of subjects: intergenerational trauma, dreams, friendship, spousal annoyances, lust, confusion, magic and love.
