Army reservist and playwright Roee Joseph spent sixty days at Shura military base, taking part in one of the most difficult tasks imaginable – identifying fatalities of the massacre. Hour after hour, he and other soldiers searched for any small sign that could give a name to each body, and allow a proper burial. In the rare pauses, Joseph opened his laptop and wrote everything as it unfolded: what he saw and heard, the thoughts that passed in his mind, and the brief conversations with those around him. Shura is a deep and poetic testimony of endurance and truth. It understands that to bury something, you must first know what it is. Shura is a brave and open attempt to help us all understand what happened, and to let it come, at last, to rest.
